Langtang is located in the north of Kathmandu that offers a multitude of fine trekking destinations. Langtang region is inhabited by a majority of Tamang people with rich cultures and tradition. Langtang and Helambu are divided by a high pass with about 13 beautiful lakes. Gosainkunda being the biggest and the holiest of all.
Langtang is a narrow valley that lies just south of the Tibetan border Keyrong. The highest point in Langtang is the Langtang Lirung (7,246m). Other smaller mountains are Gang Chenpo (6,380m), Naya Kanga (5,846m) and Dorje Lhakpa (6,966m).
Syaphru Besi (1,470 m):
Syaphru Besi is located in Rasuwa district of Baghmati zone and borders on the Chinese autonomous region Tibet in the northern part of Nepal. It is a village having 18 other village development committees.The ethnic group of Tamangs inhabit the place since the ancient times having their own history, culture, language, religion, tradition and values. They follow Buddhist religion and highly value it.
The hot spring in Syaphru Besi is also well known for its healing power of stomach related illnesses since the ancient times.
The Samdheon Woesel World Peace Stupa have been constructed for the peace in the country where lord Buddha was born, for the peace in the world as well as for the well being of all the living beings, natural resources and environment.
A Buddhist monastery is situated as well in the old part of the village on the other side of the river.
Kyanjin Gompa (3,900 m)
The Yak-cheese-factory, which is located in Kyanjin Gompa opened in 1955 with Swiss support.
The cheese dairy operates only in summer and produces annually around 7,000 Kg of cheese that is dragged by porters to a dairy in Kathmandu. Sometimes you have the oppertunity to buy cheese and curd.
A trip to Kyanjin Ri (4,600 m) is recommended during the rest day.
Shing Gompa (Chandanbari):
The most famous cheese Factory in Langtang region is located in Shing Gompa.
Furthermore a Buddhist monastery is situated in Shing Gompa.
Laurebina:
From Laurebina you have a wonderful mountain view to Ganesh Himal, Annapurna Range, Manaslu Range and the mountain Shisapangma in Tibet.
The name Laurebina signifies “without sticks”. Laure means sticks and bina means without.
The name is based on the following legend: Shiva forgot his bamboo sticks in Laurebina during his pilgrimage to Gosainkund. Nowadays while Janai Purnima Festival many of the pilgrims leave their sticks in Laurebina due to this legend.
Holy Lake of Gosainkunda:
The Gosainkunda Lake in a height of around 4,200 m is one of the most famous religious pilgrim places in Nepal. Each year in August at full moon the festival “Janai Purnima” takes place and thousands of Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims come to this holy place. Especially the Hindu people take a bath in the holy lake for purifying. The large rock in the middle of the lake is regarded as remains of Shiva and it is believed that channels carry the waters of the lake to the water basin of Khumbheshwar temple in Patan.
